For years I’ve heard about how awesome the walkway along the Karangahake Gorge is. I used to drive the road often, wondering how awesome it really was, but I never got there. Lots of my friends have ridden the rail trail on their bikes, but I still hadn’t been there, until now.
Over the Christmas holiday I did a day trip to the Karangahake Gorge to check it out, and it’s magical (I’ve been told ‘magical’ is not a very good word to use, so I’m using it).
Check out the pictures I got of the tunnel. It’s a 1km tunnel that was built for the old rail system of the gold mines. Now full of walkers, it just looks like a dark hole until I set my camera up to show me the tunnel in a new light…
